New Li'l Mell!
Grabby little thing, isn't she?

http://www.girlamatic.com/comics/mell.php

Also, I did some fan art for this week's installment in The Chronicles of William Bazillion, so check that sucker out.

The Match It for Pratchett strip sale continues awesomely. So far we've raised $1,745, and the sale continues all the way through April. If you're interested in purchasing an original Narbonic or Skin Horse strip for the absurdly low price of $25, all to benefit the Alzheimer's Research Trust, email me at narbonic at sbcglobal dot net.

OK, so, somehow, despite the fact that I've been following your LJ for a couple of years or so now (since I started reading Narbonic), I'd not gotten around to reading L'il Mell until just now.

The Awesomeness goes without saying, so what I really wanted to mention was that I did Odyssey of the Mind once, and, except for everyone winning individual awards afterwards, my experience wasn't too far off from Team Nang's. Flashback city.

Of course, now I'm all disgruntled because now I have to wait for new pages a week at a time, but that's the price ya gotta pay.

Thanks! Brain Wars is, of course, closely based on bitter personal experience. Andrew actually did win a Renatra Fusca for using the word "bouillabaisse" in Spontaneous. He totally lords it over me.

Haha, the best stuff really does come from real life, doesn't it. Thank you for making such wonderful comics.

Hey, Shaenon? Have you and Andrew seen this?

What the hell? I wonder if that's the same person who keeps writing to Andrew complaining about the typos in the "Sex and Sensibility" show and offering her services as a proofreader. For what it's worth, the text was written by the cartoonists in the show.

That post is new, so I suspect it's someone else.
I don't mean to be critical of the museum or Andrew, but the post does mention that the author compared the display text with the book from which it was reportedly taken, and it looks like the typos are transcription errors. It's awfully easy for that sort of thing to happen, and for the errors to slip by a reader who's gone over the material too often.
It's up to Andrew whether or not he wants to do anything about it, but I thought perhaps y'all should be forewarned of the possible influx of emails.

You know, that's up to Andrew, but I'm sure he'd take it more graciously if these people were a little less...what's the word?...oh, yes. Complete and utter assholes. The museum has a staff of three overworked people (who, again, did not type this particular wall text), and sometimes mistakes get through. Sneaking photos (there are signs explaining that photography isn't allowed in the museum because it can damage the artwork) so you can post them on your website and call them "garbage" isn't being helpful or constructive. It's just prancing around self-righteously so everyone can admire the stick up your ass.

Oh, and please don't mention this blog to Andrew. The museum is well aware of the typos; as far as I know, it's currently deciding whether it has the budget to print up a new set of wall text.

I don't even know how to contact him. I'm a fan of yours, so I contacted you this way. I won't mention it.

Oh, wow. I was in the city visiting the museum just a couple days ago, and I noticed that same "deserts" cafe sign.

I forgot to mount a self-righteous email campaign over it, though.

The mistakes were brought to my attention yesterday, and I fixed them bright and early this morning. We accidentally sent the wrong files off to our local copy shop, and were unaware of any mistakes until they were brought to our attention (and for what it's worth, the book's editor didn't notice anything amiss when she visited the museum--and raved about the exhibition--a couple of weeks ago).

What irritates me about this whole situation is that the blogger in question could have resolved this with a simple email. I take all of our patrons' suggestions/complaints very seriously (probably too seriously, if you ask Shaenon), and a tactful email would have led to me making the text corrections just as readily as, say, a letter-writing campaign directed at me on my day off. The blogger in question didn't even email me himself, which meant that he had no guarantee that I would *ever* become aware of his complaints, which is hardly the best way to get something accomplished.

(I was gratified to notice several typographical errors in the messages that his readers sent my way, however, which makes all of this slightly easier to handle.)
