Keith Knight Wins Harvey Award!
Keith Knight, one of my favorite dudes in cartooning, has won a much-deserved Harvey Award for Best Syndicated Strip. EFFIN' A.

The latest issue of The Comics Journal includes an interview with the man himself conducted by my husband, Andrew Farago. You can read an excerpt here.

KNIGHT: Everybody who knows my work sorta kinda knows I was a Michael Jackson impersonator...

FARAGO: That's what I was digging for.

KNIGHT: It was half in high school, half in college. Yeah, it was interesting. I think that's a graphic novel there. At the peak of it, I was touring with a Bruce Springsteen impersonator, a Madonna impersonator, and a Prince impersonator. And one of my best buddies on campus was a Billy Idol impersonator. He was a good guy; he didn't take it as seriously as a few of the other people did.

You can see more of Keef's work at KChronicles.com.

That is such a weird list.

I saw a lot of things I would have expected. I suppose it's unfairly cynical of me, but I was (pleasantly?) surprised to see a fair amount of disney stuff represented. I wouldn't have expected judges to have a very strong sense of whimsey or ... er ... childlikeness, I suppose.

This is great stuff- how have I never heard of it before?

Overlooked Manga Festival is great and all, but if you did an Overlooked American Cartoons Festival, I'd be overjoyed. I was in the comic book section of a Barnes & Noble tonight: they had a big-ass wall of superhero comics (mostly trades of stuff that was crappy to begin with, like every single Civil War tie-in) and a big-ass wall-and-a-half of manga. Otherwise: two Strangers in Paradise, a few Love & Rockets, a Scott McCloud or two, and JTHM. It was kinda depressing. :-(

Yay for Keith Knight!

I really hope that he does make a graphic novel of his impersonation years, that sounds like it would be awesome. Plus we always like to see new stuff from him.
