Tiny little nerdy guys are always funny, I don't care what you say.

No Overlooked Manga Festival this week. I've been enjoying the newest show at the Cartoon Art Museum, Edward Gorey's Dracula, featuring art and memorabilia from the Gorey-designed 1970s stage production of Dracula. Among the news clippings sent over by the Edward Gorey House and Charitable Trust, I was drawn to this actual article from the Boston Globe:

Take a look at that first paragraph.

Alas, for what might have been!

The article ends on an even more inspiring note:

I'll leave it to someone else to draw that one.

That little limp wrist sticking up out of the Tribbles...and all those oddly-crossed legs....

Thanks. I'm glad I hit refresh before toddling the kids off to the library.

*grins madly*

Ah Shae-chan, you so brilliant! *loves the drunken and probably bottle-bashed klingon*
31st-Aug-2007 04:10 pm (UTC)
Too bad they didn't have a drawing of the klingon who attempted (in vain, if I recall) to avoid spilling his drink ....
30th-Aug-2007 05:48 pm (UTC)
This is so very, very wrong...
30th-Aug-2007 05:56 pm (UTC)
100% awesome!
30th-Aug-2007 05:58 pm (UTC)
I loved you already, but now I want to have your babies.
13th-Jul-2008 10:08 am (UTC)
I know its now what you want to hear, but now you have a child to worry about and if he doesn't want to be responsible about it move on, there will always be someone else who will appreciate you and your baby more than he will.

Shaenon, if you bring the original of the Klingons panel to Stumptown, I will give you CASH MONEY FOR IT. Name your price.
30th-Aug-2007 10:22 pm (UTC)
And I'm trying to figure out if this could fit on a t-shirt...
30th-Aug-2007 06:28 pm (UTC)
YES. Also, Art night my place! I promise not to get you drunk so you'll make out with me again.
30th-Aug-2007 11:08 pm (UTC)

Arrgh...I'd love to, but Andrew and I are way too busy tonight. But I do need my legal pad back.

30th-Aug-2007 06:31 pm (UTC)
So cute!
30th-Aug-2007 06:33 pm (UTC)

Oh, please, may I pass this along to some Gorey fan-friends and my trekkie mother?

Pretty please with biiiiig kitty eyes?
30th-Aug-2007 07:18 pm (UTC)

Man, I love Edward Gorey. And I love Star Trek. And I love Shaenon. THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!

Nice typeface.
30th-Aug-2007 06:41 pm (UTC)
I thought the meeting panel best captured Gorey's style, but they're all awesome.

You should do more of these. Maybe illustrate Drunk Star Trek night? /shameless begging

The thing about doing a Gorey pastiche is that, even if it's a cruddy half-assed version like mine, it still TAKES FLICKIN' FOREVER. It's all those tiny little lines. It's really embarrassing how long this one took me.
30th-Aug-2007 06:42 pm (UTC)
That's fantastic! I was also quite struck by the idea of Gorey designing Gilbert & Sullivan sets/productions...
31st-Aug-2007 03:23 am (UTC)
The next time Light Opera Theater of Sacramento does Iolanthe, I'm going to campaign for Gorey-styled sets.

This is FULL OF WIN.

Wow. Just Wow. As a Huge fan of Gorey, as well as classic Trek, that went down like warm milk... yum! Thanks for that, and if anyone ever does a Gorey adaptation of a Herbie movie, I think I'd die.
