Narbonic Enters Final Month
My press release...

Narbonic, Shaenon K. Garrity's long-running daily webstrip, has just entered its final month of publication. The strip will complete its six-and-a-half-year run in December, with the last strip appearing on December 31, 2006.

Narbonic was planned from the beginning with a set story arc and an ending. The strip has run daily, without missing an update, since July 31, 2000. During the course of its run, Garrity received a 2001 nomination for the Friends of Lulu Kim Yale Award, a 2005 award for Lulu of the Year, and a 2005 Web Cartoonists' Choice Award for Best Writer. Narbonic received Websnark's 2004 Shortbread for Bringing the Funny.

Starting on January 1, 2007, Garrity will begin Narbonic: Director's Cut, rerunning the strip with daily annotations and extras, plus a weekly Narbonic podcast with Garrity, Modern Tales founder Joey Manley, and a host of special guests. Readers will be able to choose between reading the complete original Narbonic archives or following the ongoing Dirctor's Cut version.

Volume 4 of the Narbonic print collection is scheduled for a 2007 release. There will be six volumes in total.

Garrity will also appear as a guest at Vericon VII, at Harvard University, January 26-28, 2007.

By the by, if you ever need me to ramble on pointlessly and at length about such topics as the Madblood Battle Anthem, Ginny, "A Brief Moment of Culture" or whatever else to pad out the upcoming DVD Special Edition Narbonic thing, I would be more than happy to.

How is the Director's Cut going to work? Will it feature all strips like Queen of Wands? Will it be a strip at a time or multiple strips per day?

No matter what, I'm looking forward to it.

And congrats on being nearly finished and producing such a groovy webcomic.

Yeah, it'll be like the Queen of Wands reruns, but with only one strip a day. Because otherwise it'd get all unweildy, what with Narbonic being a daily.

Awww. Came to the comic later on in its run than I'd have liked (missed Narbonicon), but have been enjoying it to no end since. I'd like to say thank you again for the strip; it's been the first thing I check every day since I made it through the archives.

Hmm, I think I just might do at least a day of Vericon now; I've been considering going to it before but as it's only two weeks after the Arisia convention and I've usually been dead broke in January I've not done so in the past. The burning question is, well, will you have the Books there? I don't like to get stuff by mail, largely 'cause I don't really have a secure place to receive anything bigger than a letter, but on the other hand I can see that you might not be hauling a ton of books, gerbils, and T-shirts.

Director's cut, yay. I guess those are becoming dee rigger; first Airie, then Dye, now you. ...But I hope no one'll expect the same from me. I have doubt enough that I'll live through the first run till 2029 as it is.

So, will the "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" story in the JPG filenames be wrapping up, continued in the directors cut, published elsewhere as your whim suits, or left unfinished with you going "Heh, heh, heh" at your more rabid fans?
